valgrace week day 3! with the prompt secret. piper helps jason plan a proposal and wonders how leo can jump to such wild conclusions. not much plot, just a fun time

Yo! I'm doing a Heroes of Olympus rewrite!

I'm not a huge fan of how some scenes go in canon and how the characters esp the gods are handled in Hoo, and after reading one too many rewrite/AU fics, I've decided fuck it, imma make my own.

I'm changing quite a few things, like:

- making Piper's memories not be tampered with and as a result be way closer to Leo (credit to Heroes of Juno by @queenjunothegreat for this idea!)

- MOTHERLY HERA/JUNO WHO PSEUDO-ADOPTS JASON FTW also parental Lupa but that'll be more apparent in a Jason prequel/sequel(depends on how I wanna format it) I’ll write after TLH is done

- slowburn valgrace instead of comphet jiper

- Leo and Piper QPR(+Jason when Piper stops being his #1 opp). Jasipereo ftw babyyy

- the whole series is just gonna have a good deal of focus on the Lost Trio. I'm not gonna shaft anyone ofc but my favorite punching bags characters are just gonna get extra love :3

- Jason's gonna be considerably more feral cuz CMON MAN WAS RAISED BY WOLVES(this is more prominent in the later books cuz in TLH he was alr feral, going at 2 giants with his BARE ASS HANDS)

- Jason has more bite cuz DAMMIT HE DESERVES TO BE ANGRY/BITTER AND CLAP BACK. HIS LIFE IS SHIT, LET MY BRO BE MAD

- more exploration into Jason's character cuz man was shafted so hard :(

- exploration of characters' powers in general, def buffing the Big Three kids to be as strong as Percy cuz holy cow he's OP. I love Percy and his OP-ness, but the other Big Three kids should be just as OP

- Zeus is the God of Justice, which we don't see much of in PJO's characterization of him, but Jupiter is Roman and hence is much more strict in the RRverse, so consequently I think his domain of law and order is more central to Jupiter than his greek counterpart, so I'd like to explore Jason having powers related to that and being an absolute powerhouse when it comes to debates and politics despite hating them

- characterizing the Gods differently from canon as I'm a Hellenist and writing them as they are in canon makes me like. Kinda uncomfortable. I will be using mythic literalism as that is what PJO/HoO's based on and I'm not rewriting the very foundations of the series, so they will still have committed the things they did in mythology, though I'm keeping them largely unaltered from the Og greek mythos and unsanitized as this isn't intended for a young audience like PJO is. Their behavior won't be exactly like their depictions in myths nor how they actually are irl, it's a mix of both(Ex: Zeus has still done heinous shit so he won't be as great as he is irl, but he isn't supremely petty and bitchy like he is in PJO.). This uhh. Will probably mean that PJO events would go differently which would influence HOO but if I think about that too much I'm gonna wanna do a PJO rewrite too and akbhdhd so just imagine that everything that goes on in PJO goes as canon (for now at least) for some reason or another.

- Octavian and Jason are were best friends cuz I said so. This change is inspired by To Storm and Fire(a Heroes of Olympus rewrite) which I am in LOVE with. The antagonistic side characters(like Drew and Octavian) got very little development or character exploration so l'm definitely giving them that in my rewrite!

- The Seven feel and are much closer together

- delving more into the sevens' trauma pre-camp, might also do a one/two shot for each of them. Jason’s a given cuz I’m writing a whole ass fic or even series dedicated to his past, Leo and Piper definitely, probably also Hazel and Annabeth, not sure on Percy and Frank cuz for Frank I’m def going into the trauma that comes with growing up in an Asian household but don’t have too many ideas on how to execute that, and for Percy I don’t have all that many ideas in general outside of the little we know in PJO(I used to think we knew a lot but honestly, we really don’t? Like we know Poseidon left, Sally had to work a lot, Gabe sucks, and he got kicked out of 6 six schools in 6 years and the reasons, but we don’t have any concrete details. There might be more in HoH, I haven’t read it yet so lmk if there is). Open to any ideas for this!

- camp is. Tense. It's been only a few months since the war, grief is still fresh, and Jason being tall, blonde, and blue-eyed with a scar ain't helping 💀 some people think Silena was a hero, others think she was a villain, some people sympathized with Luke, others despised him, there's a lotta differing views.

I have loads more ideas that I won't get into here cuz the post'll get way too long, but l'd love to hear what you guys think! What scenes/characterizations should I change? What topics would you like to see handled differently? What should I add? I'm open to any and all suggestions!

Currently outlining TLH, will start posting it on my ao3 once I have the first chapter and 4-5 buffer ones written so I'll prolly start posting it in a month or two? Idk, depends on my workload irl and if I get hit by writer’s block. Maybe less, maybe more, who knows. I'll be writing a bunch of shorter stories for specific moments, time between books, and namely a prequel/tih sequel focusing on Jason's past and who he was before Hera wiped his memory. Open to any suggestions for additional works too. Feel free to drop any questions and suggestions bout the rewrite here or in my ask box!

Anyway Valgrace chore splitting for when they live together hcs because I just felt like it:

-Leo cooks. Jason cannot cook to save his life and should in fact be banned from the kitchen. Leo has tried to teach him several times and Jason always at least kills a minimum of one household appliance in the progress (including the time they were just trying to make a salad, somehow). He’s also the one putting items away and wiping down the counters when he’s done. The only thing Jason is allowed to do in the kitchen is the dishes, which Leo proceeds to use his powers to dry.

-They handle shopping together. Leo is the one cooking and also the only one who knows what he needs for said cooking but cannot remember what’s actually in the fridge for shit. He’s also got the out of sight out of mind problem where if something he buys vanishes behind another container in the fridge he will promptly forgets they have it at all. After he bought hot sauce four weeks in a row that one time, Jason went through the kitchen meticulously documenting everything they have, and he’s kept a list ever since. Leo just adds whatever else he needs for what he’s planning to cook. 

-Leo is usually the one stocking the fridge after shopping because he insists Jason has a weird system that makes him unable to find anything. However. He cannot reach the top shelves. Jason ends up hovering Leo up and down so he can stock those because he’s trying to avoid another chair stacking counter climbing situation (short people have to help themselves somehow okay)

-Jason does the laundry. Leo regularly forgets laundry is a thing that even exists and honestly everything is going to end up oil-stained again in like a day anyway so eh. Jason irons and folds all of their clothes too but Leo just stuffs his into drawers where they’ll inevitably get incredibly crinkled.

-Tidying up depends on the room. Leo has a system, but that system is organized chaos. When it comes to his work bench/the workshop Jason isn’t allowed to touch anything because if he does Leo will spend hours trying to find things again. It happened once because Jason was trying to help and he felt horrible about it for ages. When it comes to minor stuff it’s absolutely Jason. Leo will drop the remote/his bag/his keys in a random place and Jason appears out of thin air to put them in their spot bc Leo won’t do it and they both know if someone doesn’t they’ll spend ages searching for them in the future. 

Jason can handle a certain degree of chaos (even comes to sort of like it because it’s cozy and lived-in and they have a home now!! Not just a random space they bought but a home filled with proper memories and little trinkets and everything!! It also makes him feel less anxious about the times he forgets/doesn’t have the energy to put his things away). But if it gets too bad his eye starts to twitch because he grew up with cohort sleeping quarter inspections and hated getting points docked on those. He will trick Leo into tidying up together if necessary (usually by suggesting they invite their friends over).

-Jason does most of the cleaning, because he just has way higher standards when it comes to that than Leo does (again, Camp Jupiter inspections). Leo will join because he’s very aware he’s the one causing most of the messes with his work, but he’ll definitely insist on background music and will also inevitably end up trying to convince him to do sword fights with the brooms mid-sweeping. Jason loves him for that.

If you need more specifics then they knew that you had a toxic household but they didn't know you would get hurt and they are either mad or dissapointed or even sad because they didn't see it sooner. One says that Leo has so much respect for Jason’s history and the parts he has kept from Lupa that while he will tease about Jason being a dog, while he does get off on his man going all feral on him, he would not go to pet play because he respects that part of him. Leo embraces Jason’s wolf side as a culture

Percy: James. His fatal flaw would 100% be loyalty. percy would sacrifice himself any day for his friends or loved ones. and percy would SO forget his wand on the sofa.

Annabeth: Lily. (I'm a jegulus fan mainly but Jily just makes sense here.) they're both smart women who have been disadvantaged since birth (Lily who didn't have knowledge of the wizarding world. meaning she had to work twice as hard as her pureblood peers. and annabeth not having powers when her peers did.) they're also both ambitious and immensely powerful. also they both have smart - but - also - dumb boyfriends.

Jason: Mary. this one might be a little bit if a stretch but HEAR ME OUT. both of them left their friends in different ways. Jason died, and Mary refused to join the Order. also, Jason was the only member of the 7 that died (properly) and Mary was the only member of the Maurauders to survive. plus they both have amnesia.

Piper: Sirius. both raised in a household that had money (Piper I'm pretty sure not at first). both found their own family. both rejected their family's beliefs and became their own person with traits tailored to being as far from their family as possible. (Piper and the aphrodite cabin. sirius and the black family.)

Leo: Remus. (okay so maybe Peter makes more sense here but I'm running off atyd here.) both lost a parent at a young age (Remus atyd canon remember) in some way shape or form that felt to them like it was their fault. Both rediscovered their other parent later in life. both with powers they hate and can't control. remus is also the third wheel, a little, because James and sirius were always wrapped up in each other.) (even better when you consider valgrace)

Frank: peter. according to fandom anyway, (and YOUNG PETER REMEMBER THIS IS YOUNG PETER I AM ON ABOUT) peter is never really anyone's favourite character, and neither is frank. both are overshadowed by the more extroverted, 'hero types.'

Hazel: Pandora. idk she's got that whimsical witch energy you know, that's all I have to say about this. also Pandora could kick ass if she was given the chance, and so can Hazel.

Thalia: that girl is Marlene mckinnon coded all the way through, even down to the trio where one member betrayed them (Peter, Marlene and James is who I'm on about). also Marlene would be bad ass at archery and would totally be a great immortal huntress.

Reyna: Dorcas. just. yes. I can't describe it but nothing has ever felt so right.

Rachel: Regulus. HEAR ME OUT HEAR ME OUT. the personalities don't match but JEGULUS. the JEGULUS POTENTIAL. the ANGST. also Regulus would so be prophetic. also he'd make great paintings. he'd hate apollo though.

Nico: Evan. OKAY BUT LIKE??? Evan is like, undercover nico coded yknow? like he doesn't strike you as a jico coded character but you look deeper and THERE HE IS. NICO DI ANGELO. also a teensy bit of one sided sunrose is always good right? also. he would beef with Hades so badly. and also he'd totally be a little emo demon summoning twelve year old.

Will: BARTY. okay HEAR ME OUT AGAIN. Barty isn't typical 'sunshine' but he is very extroverted and would honestly still be the light in evan's life. also soft rosekiller is top tier. he's literally so smart as well he could so be a doctor.
